Dimensions of antique Ball mason jars:
Half gallon stands about nine and one half inches tall.
Quart stands about seven inches tall.
Pint stands about five inches tall.
All three have the same size mouth, which has a 2.25 inch opening and traditionally took a zinc lid and red rubber ring to seal.
After 1937, Ball revived their blue jars for limited times. These blues are less aqua and have special markings to help you recognize them.
In 1976 Ball commemorated the Bicentennial with darker blue jars and an eagle on back.
In 2013, Ball came out with their Heritage Collection blue jars (now discontinued) and they have "American Heritage" embossed on back.
In 2016, a new line of blue jars became available in various sizes. These have measurements on the sides. This new line of blue jars includes wide mouths. Ball never has never made wide mouth blue screw top jars until now, so if you see one, you'll know it's not an antique.
